Among Us is a social deduction game for up to 15 players. Each game begins with players choosing one of two roles: Crewmates or Impostors. While the Crewmates' goal is to complete tasks and identify Impostors, the Impostors' goal is to sabotage the crew's mission.

There are 4 game modes: the spaceship "The Skeld", the skyscraper "MIRA HQ", the planet base "Polus", and the airship "The Airship". Each game mode has different objectives for the Crewmates and sabotage opportunities for the Impostors. The game is played in rounds, each of which is played in one of the four maps. Each round starts with the Crewmates being given tasks to complete, while the Impostors are given an unknown number of tasks. At the end of the round, the players are assigned to either the Crewmates or the Impostors. The Crewmates win the game when they complete all tasks. The Impostors win the game by either killing all Crewmates or by sabotaging one of the four maps.

Players can choose from a variety of astronaut characters. Each game takes places in a space-themed setting, although this has since changed with the release of "The Airship" map. The player is represented by a cartoon armless astronaut. The game has six colors to describe roles, each with its own characteristics.
